Unfortunately, it happens every year. Fall comes and goes before you know it, and all of a sudden, you look outside in the morning and everything is covered in snow and underneath that snow is ice.
But this year, you’ll be ready, because Sunshine Toyota has everything you need to tackle winter.
Grip, or slip?
Tires are the one thing between you, and the road beneath you, so it makes sense that they would be one of the most important things to consider when winter rolls around.
But there are so many myths and rumours, as well as a seemingly endless selection of brands and models to choose from, that it can seem like an insurmountable task to consider every year.
Luckily, it’s easy when you know the basics.
Where do I put them?
You should always use winter tires in matched sets of four, regardless of whether your vehicle is front-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, 4×4, or rear-wheel-drive.
Stopping distance will be reduced, and stability will be greatly improved by using a full set. Using winter tires on only the front, or rear, will upset the balance of the car, and can lead to a dangerous loss of control.
Using the same brand and model is also important, as each winter tire is designed with different characteristics, and mixing them can lead to unpredictable handling.
Ice tires, or snow tires?
Believe it or not, there is a difference. Tires designed to excel in deep snow are designed very differently from tires designed to provide traction on ice.
Some manufacturers offer tires made to provide a balanced compromise between the two, to allow safe driving in any conditions.
Our knowledgeable Parts & Service staff can help you decide which tire will suit your needs best.
